                                                                  Tree Killer

I am a tree killer
Do I feel righteous?
Or pathetic?
That I didn’t cut down the tree
The neighbour did
I cry and defend myself
Even though
I hated this tree
For following natures edict
And growing on its own
Too close to the fence

Sedate it was not
It spread and grew
So that the fence
Began to give way
I hate myself more for
Letting it grow
Too long
Strong and tall
Letting it imagine
It could live
When I should have
Pulled as a sapling
Had I noticed it
At all

Now I am complicit
In its demise
And I must do penance
By planting trees
That shall grow and grow.

  1. A tale of our times. We have only recently begun to realise what an important resource trees are.

  4. Trees are crucial to our environment and ultimate health. They provide shade beauty and are a home to other creatures as well. Hugging trees is not enough we must plant them as well.
