Choices

The new year cometh
A chance to start anew
To make things better
To freshen up
Your look on life
To boldly go
Where you’ve not gone before
To make the world a better place
To be happy in yourself
And resolute in your choices
To live life to the fullest
For the year will just begin
Let's make a good one

Let go the savage world
Shut out the tense busy life
Seek to shut out vengeful people
Enjoy the call of family

The food and the revelry
The best times are had not
With tons of money
But with love and companionship
So don’t forget to share
A little happiness
 Enjoy the season of lights
But give generously
To those with little

All year long.

Placid Man or Woman

No obituary
Ever really speaks
Of the placid man
It doesn’t resonate
With the common folk
Even though
The placid man or woman
Is the one
Who can be the kindest
Who gives of his or herself
Every day with no reward
Or accolades spoken
They don’t seek the media
They just do
Perhaps their real reward comes

In the afterlife?
