Kindness Prevails

Life in the time of uncertainty
Precious moments missed
Precious moments doled out
Over internet we share
A smile a wave to relatives
Friends too
Connected by voice and hope
Near and far
Stories told by voice and video
Intimacy communicated
That human need to be
With people still survives
Even with physical distancing
We are one
In this together
Kindness prevails
We’ll survive
Humanity will win.

Unthinking behaviour

Alone
In a sea of voices
Crying out in
Boredom
Anguish
Despair
Physical Distance
We share on Facebook
We reachout on Twitter
A necessity
A plague
A pandemic
The voices cry
Some voices shout
You won’t get me
They break out
Spread disease and havoc
In their wake
Some die, some don’t
Their selfish unthinking behavior
Condemns us all.

Waiting

I know you're waiting
For that ride
Your love is coming
Finally
To take you away
I'm happy for you
you'll have no pain
No more worries, or woe
Youth will find you again
My heart bleeds
For my mother
Is going home
And I'll miss you
Forever more

For June

For June

If I could have picked
A mother-in –law
She’d have been
A lot like you
A giving mother
With a sense of humor
Who taught her children
To be clever and kind
To be generous
Without a thought
To express themselves
Without worry or reprisal
That debate was lively conversation
Within a family
No ill will was thought
That acceptance to the family
Was because love abided here

If I had wings

If I had wings

If I had wings
I’d want to fly
High up in the sky
To touch the heavens
To see your smile
Just one more time
To hear your voice
But even now
I close my eyes
I hear your voice
Your wisdom echoes
Deep within my mind
I see the smile
That could have launched
A thousand ships
But that chose
To birth and raise
Six children
How lucky we were
To have such a tender soul
To teach and guide us
Thank- you Mom
For everything and know
We miss you still.

Forget Us Not

Forget Us Not

The sky dark and fiery
A solemn crowd stood round the cenotaph
The old, the young and in between
Old men and women in wheelchairs
Pushed by the young
All bundled against the bitter wind
Remembering days of old
Stories told by family
Throughout the years
Of great-grandfather, great-grandmother, great aunts and uncles
Grandmothers and grandfather, aunts and uncles
Those newly indoctrinated into the club
Of wounded and dead veterans
Ceremony took place
Heads were bowed
Prayers were said
As heads were raised
The heavenly sight was seen
The clouds lifted
The winds stilled
Light trickled down
A single ray of light
Shone round
In all heads a voice was heard
We sacrificed our futures and lives for you
Forget us not
The bells pealed out
A hundred times
Forget us not!!
