Do We Believe?

Does the past assess?

Everything we do?

Or can we escape

The ties that bind

Twist and knot

Into our subconscious

Hiding in deepest corners

Life is fairer

To some then others

Now they tell us

It damages our DNA

Nonsense we say

We hold our destiny

Not scientists

But do we really?

Some say he's a farceur

Who uses the lexicon

Of his idea of big business

To run a country

But a country is not a business

It is people coming together 

For common good and prosperity.

If you've run a company or two

Into bankruptcy not once

But many many times

And left people in the poor house

Redacting your past deeds 

Calling them fake news 

Should people actually trust

Anything you say?

His luminance is here for all to see

If they but look

He is kind sweet and loving

Has a sense of humour

That makes me laugh

He cares deeply for his children

He loves and looks after me

With tender loving care

I need him

More than he’ll ever know

Sometimes I just listen to him breathe

At night and know I am safe

For his capacity to encompass me

He is essential for my well being

For his love makes me

Happy and whole

Able to face anything

We should prize environment

Over all else

Instead we make the gaffe

Of trusting others to actually

Look after the earth and keep us safe

People who seem to want

All the riches and no responsibility

To keep their home safe

Heard it all before

An informal talk

They say

From elevated positions and minds

They spout rhetoric

Then they yell

Instead of using diplomacy

They seem like two of a kind

No empathy for others

But one is definitely

Worse than the other

With his threats  

Followed up by tests
And proof of purpose
Haven't we heard this all before?

We’re all on edge again

 Are inextricable

But if we can leave the past hurts

Behind us

Not forget or forgive

Just move on

So we can find that beacon of hope

The fabulous future that can happen

Tantalizing Tuesday's Tete-Tete's #No.5- Perception

Prompts: perception, inspirational, checkered.

Perception

When I was young my perception of people

Was always skewed by the rosy glow

In which I saw people

There was good and bad

But most people I was convinced were good

Inspirational people were plenty

Those who had checkered pasts were few

And could be reformed with a little kindness and charity

Now that time has passed

I see people a little differently

I’ve been burned a time or two you see

My kindness has been used against me

I now look a little closer

Before I leap into situations that can hurt me

But I find I cannot truly change my nature

I am willing to give most people a chance

To give what help I can

To spread kindness even still

For I know that even if I am accused

Of rose-coloured glasses

Through which I peer

The world looks better through them

After all, perception is in the eye of the beholder

And people can surprise us all

Given a little kindness too
